How to become better at networking
It doesn't matter if you are an introvert or an extrovert. You can learn how to become better at networking with the following. Three steps:
1. Attend as many networking events as possible
Many of you may think that you need to put yourself out there more. It may seem like I am reverting to dating, well if you need some extra help in that area I understand, but no I am talking about business networking. However, business networking is a lot like dating. You want to show the other how you can be of value to them and when all is well maybe start a work relationship.
2. Dress to impress
I personally like to dress to impress as it can give you an advantage in meeting the people that can really be of value to you. When people see that you made an effort they often are more prone to have a conversation with you. That conversation could start with them giving you a compliment about the bright pink coloured jacket you are wearing. It also works the other way around. Give people compliments who you think dress nicely. And by the way it is a good conversation starter.
3. Connect on other social media
Once you have established a connection with someone it is imperative that you stay in touch and connect on other levels. Exchange social media accounts and keep each other updated about future events that could both be of interest to you. In this way you may have a networking event buddy to take with you when you don't feel like going alone.
